Matthew Clinkenbeard has been playing guitar for 18 years and giving lessons for 11. Originally from Kansas City, Missouri, he started off playing 50s and 60s rock-and-roll alongside his father, before studying with two of Kansas City’s busiest jazz guitarists and playing with various jazz groups throughout high school. He then studied jazz and music business at the University of Miami Frost School of Music before graduating in 2016 and relocating to Nashville shortly thereafter. While in Miami, he also began exploring country and blues styles more intensively and was lucky enough to get to play with Country Music Hall of Famer Charlie McCoy.
Since moving to Tennessee, Matthew has released an album of mostly original compositions, toured with country artist Derryl Perry, performed at the Smoky Mountain Opry in 2018 alongside Voice winner Chris Blue, and played all over Middle Tennessee. He currently is a member of the band Cullen Wade and the Waters, and plays regularly with country-jazz vocalist Amanda Raye, in addition to various lessons, sessions, and live gigs.
Having been fortunate to study with many fantastic teachers throughout the years, Matthew tries to bring together all his various influences in order to pass on the most important knowledge to students, and enjoys the opportunity to give back to those who may be interested in the guitar.
